Date Night:Jersey Style!

The Mr. and I just love our date nights! Sometimes it's an all day event and other times we just make plans to head out for the evening. Spending that QT is very important even after all these years! It's always nice to go out laugh, flirt and just enjoy the person you love! We've had a few date nights since we've moved, just exploring the City together. We usually always head to NYC, but our last Date Night we spent in Jersey!

First we went to Jersey Garden, which in my opinion is one of the better malls I've ever been to. I don't know what it is, but for an outlet mall it doesn't feel like an outlet mall! Anyone, that's ever been to Franklin Mills or Arundel Mills knows what I'm talking about. It flows just like a regular mall, but with a lot more stores and a great variety. After a little shopping we decided to take in a movie. The plan was to see Prometheus, but it was only playing in 3D and 3D IMAX and me and the hubby don't like 3D anything. Those damn glasses give us a headache, so we opted for Battleship.

To my surprise we thought the movie was great. I thought it was going to be a Transformers knockoff, but I was glad I was wrong! I thought the plot and animations was dope and that Rhianna really did her acting thang! Plus, I'm such a huge Liam Neeson fan! He can do no wrong in my book! After the movie was over we decided the night was still young and we'd go get a drink or something. So, we decided to head to the historic Ironbound Section of Newark. This would be the first time either one of us had really hung out in Newark, but we felt like staying local so....

The Ironbound section is in the East Ward of Newark and sits directly behind Penn Station and the downtown and it's primarily a Portuguese neighborhood. The main street is Ferry St which is the home to many restaurants, small business and boutiques. So, it just so happens they were having a Portuguese Festival that evening, so there was a lot going on. We didn't quite know where we were going but we ended up at Mompou Tapas Wine Bar & LoungeThe main dining area and bar boast windows that open onto Ferry Street and a hidden garden patio in the rear. We opted for a little privacy so we sat on the patio and the weather was perfect!

We peeped the prices and thought it would just be more economical to order a picture of red Sangria! Glad we did, because it was delicious! I opted just for some Tostones while the Mr. ordered the Calamari. The waiter made it a point to tell us that the calamari wasn't breaded and fried, but grilled and tossed in a pomodora sauce. Which was fine with us!  Let's talk about that pomodora sauce for a second! That shit was SO good! I mean I would go back just to get the damn sauce! We were dipping bread, tostones and anything we could into that sauce! Delectable!

There was about 5 guys sitting at a table in back of us and in the midst of our own conversation we were being  a little nosey. The hubby peeped they were drinking crazy "Chimay" out of these small goblets. So, we decided to Google Chimay to find out exactly what it was!! We're fools! So, after reading about it we asked the waiter to bring us two!! Haha! Chimay (Blue) is actually a Belgium beer and I'm really not a beer drinker. Even though they charged us $9 each for those little bottles they were damn tasty. It's a really strong beer that has a rich kind of chocolatey, red wine thing going on!! They are good. Anyway, we're sitting drinking, eating, laughing, chillin then music (hip hop) starts to play and the lights dim on the patio and we were just in our zone!! After 11pm, they apparently have a DJ that comes in and spins and he was actually good. So we had a great time as usual.

Rating: The food was plentiful, the ambiance was sexy, the music was great and the drinks were good! We'll definitely be going back!

Date nights are the best nights :)

  1. I love this post, it was not only fun to read but it was informative as well. Very well written not overly descriptive and it put me in the mood to experience a night just like this.
